PROFILEI started skiing at the age of 5 at Cairngorm with my sister, Charlie, in the SSC bairns group. From here I went on to follow her footsteps and started racing at the age of 8 at various races at Cairngorm, where at one race I beat Charlie and fellow LSC member and team mate, Alex Tilley. It wasn’t until afterwards when they started complaining about the sudden uphill winds during their runs that I realised my luck here! Carrying on from this I entered the Mini’s race at the British where I got my first insight into racing seriously. Next season fortunately for me, Charlie broke her thumb so I took her place at the British Ski Academy. I was able to get sub 400 points in both the Welsh Championships and The British Interschools, (there had only been one race in Scotland this season and I didn’t get low enough points), which meant I was now eligible to enter the British Children’s Championships where I finished in a very respectful position in the super G on a pair of 143 GS skis - since then I have been racing on longer skis!
In 2008 I was awarded a Rannoch Bursary giving me the opportunity to go out training abroad again with the BSA. At the end of the season at the British Championships, there was a bit of pressure as Charlie won these races when she was my age, well lets just say it wasn’t a happy end to the season. When I reached children 2 the racing again got harder so I needed to step up my game. Knowing this I became much more competitive and really started to work harder. I was awarded the Rannoch Bursary again for the following two seasons and I am very grateful for this great opportunity and also extremely lucky because not many people get this support.
Now moving from British children’s team, I have been selected for the Scottish Ski team as well as the British junior team. While waiting for all my new equipment to arrive I am having a summer off but plan to be back on skis in the autumn.
