I made my first tentative turns on skis at the young age of 2 and a half in Park City Utah, America. I was immediately hooked and loved every family ski trip we took. My brother (Adam) and I were taught in some ski schools in America as my parents wanted us to be able to eventually ski with them and be able to keep up……..but after all those lessons you can guess who is faster down the slopes now!!

When I turned 11 years old I started to get into competitive racing through my school and then the children’s races. I worked my way up through the levels of competition via the children’s ski team, the Scottish ski team and now the British ski team. My ski racing has taken me all over the world - from Europe to North America and then last summer I was in South America (Chile) for the first time for six weeks.

After a successful year in 2007, and achieving my life long goal of becoming a member of the British Ski Team, the 2008 season didn’t quite go to plan. One week before the races were to start in November I fell in training and hurt my knee, causing a slight tear in my mcl and I also hurt my ankle damaging ligaments cartilage as well as some bone bruising.
Frustratingly I was sidelined for 8 months which cost me the season. I was skiing well in pre-season and felt very positive regarding the races ahead, including some European Cups which would have been my first, and represented a huge step forward for me. It was emotionally tough to spend the season at home, but what doesn’t kill me can only make me stronger! The next 5 months were spent in physiotherapy and the gym under the guidance of Sandi Lylle. Thankfully, all the hard work has nearly paid off. My knee has totally recovered and my ankle is nearly 100 %. I am physically stronger and mentally tougher for the 2009 season.

I have just returned from a two week Camp in Sass Fee and Zermatt, Switzerland. It felt so good be back on the skis. I was worried that after 8 months off I would forget all the good things I had improved on last season. However, after a few days back on the slopes, I managed to pick up where I left off, and I really feel positive for next year.

My ambition in life has always been to break into the British Ski Team and now I have achieved this, my next long term goal is to make the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. Until then, it’s a lot of miles on the skis, even more miles on the bike and many sweaty hours in the gym.

I have been involved with the Ladies Ski Club for a few years and I would like to thank them for all the help and support they have given me. It has been a huge help. Thank you.
