December 2011 UPDATE

After a difficult and frustrating summer, of dealing with Chondromalacia Patellae in my right knee (or aka Runner's Knee), I am now back on snow training.

I was out in Kitzsteinhorn and Mottaller in November with the British Team, it was really fun and I had a great chance to work on my technique, getting it back up to scratch. We were really lucky with the weather, it was sunshine almost every day, except for right at the end of the camp in the first few days of December.

One of those days was the time trials for the Youth Olympics, which are to be held in Innsbruck in January. I won the trials and I am now on the short list for the Games in Innsbruck. So hopefully I shall hear soon if I have made the final list.

Meanwhile, I am starting the FIS season with some races in Austria and I'm looking forward to seeing my family over Christmas. I would just like to say a big thank you to the Ladies Ski Club for their continued support and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

August 2011 update

After a good end to last season, where I achieved a PB in slalom of 46.64 points, I was selected back onto the British Junior Team for 2011/2012 season. I was also nominated and selected for the BOA's preparation camp for the Youth Winter Olympic Games (to be held in Innsbruck in january). I had a great experience on camp and learnt a lot of new things.

I am now training for 2 months in New Zealand with the British Team, which should be really beneficial and I am hoping to improve a lot, before starting my autumn training.

April 2011 update

 Dear LSC,

I would like to give you all an update, now that the season has come to an end.

After a winter which has been very challenging for me, I am pleased to have achieved 65.73 points in Slalom and 87.70 points in Giant Slalom. I am also thrilled with my performance in the NJC Slalom at the British Championships, where I achieved 3rd place in the International Juniors, 3rd place in the British Juniors and was crowned British Junior 1 Slalom Champion 2011.

I also managed to come 1st in a FIS Citizen race held in Combloux, and this was special for me because it was my first FIS podium.

Thank you very much for the support you have given me this season, it is very much appreciated.

 Rachelle

2011 UPDATE

PROFILE

I have just completed my first year in FIS with a personal best of 46.64 points in Slalom at the Belgian National Championships in Val Thorens France.

It all started at around the age of 2 in Courchevel, France. I was able to spend a few weeks skiing each year in the ESF (Ecole de Ski Français) progressing quickly through their classes and I soon moved on to have a go at ski racing in the 'Fleches' and 'Chamois' held every lunchtime on the Stade for the general public. By 7 years old I was in 'Stage Cabri' and after a week moved up into 'Stage Competition' where I was selected to compete in the ESF Etoile D'Or at La Saisies in 2003. This was my first proper race and I was the youngest competing by 3 years. We were given free red ESF jackets and mine was practically what you could call a dress on me!

I had so much fun that I wanted to do more races and more training but what I really wanted was one of those lovely BLUE jackets the Club des Sports de Courchevel had! Before I could join the club I had to take the entry test, which I successfully completed in December 2003, and I had to attend French school.

At the same time I started school in Le Praz which I attended for 2 winters and really enjoyed – especially lunch and break time snacks. I have been with the club for 8 years in total and made great friends in France and I'm now fluent in French. I have competed in many races over the years, including the Etoile D'Or, Coq D'Or, Ecureuil D'Or, French district/regional/national races and the International Jugend Cup. The Jugend Cup is a race held annually for minis to CH2 and I was lucky enough to be selected each year where I represented Courchevel. This is a really specialevent held between teams from Obersdorf ( Germany ), Schruns ( Austria ), Madessimo ( Italy ), Saas-Fee ( Switzerland ) and Courchevel (France) with a great atmosphere. The best result I achieved in these races was 5th place in slalom and I managed to go up on the podium in 2008 when it was held in Saas-Fee.

In the summer of 2010, I competed in my first FIS race in Argentina where I obtained 75.70 points in Giant Slalom and came 13th. At the start of the winter season I was unable to train effectively due to muscular strain in my lowerback as a result of rapid growth. I was rather frustrated!

The first FIS season had been challenging for me but I am pleased with my performance in the British National Junior Championship (NJC) Slalom where I achieved 3rd place in the International Juniors, 3rd place in the British Juniors and was crowned British Junior 1 Slalom Champion 2011.
