LSC members (and a few husbands/partners) got together for a socially distanced late summer walk and picnic at Studland, on the Dorset coast, hosted by our Vice President Joanna Milner-Percy. With members coming from Cheshire, Suffolk, London and Bournemouth, many chose to make a weekend of it and had dinner together, albeit in their bubbles at well spaced tables, at the Purbeck Golf Club on Saturday evening. There was fine weather for the walk, so much so some even ventured into the sea for a dip…. The walk was followed by a picnic with small groups of picnickers relaxing on the outfield of the cricket pitch in the grounds of Studland Bay House, the old family home of one our members Sarah Ferguson; this was topped off with a tour of the house and gardens. There will be a more detailed account in this year’s bulletin, but a selection of pictures from the day are below:

Flaine and LSC members nominated in 2020 Racer Ready Awards
The Racer Ready awards recognise the achievements of the athletes, clubs, academies, sponsors, resorts that held British races and Governing Bodies from last season.
It is fantastic to see Flaine, LSC’s home in the mountains, on the short list for the “Best Racer Resort” and it would be great if members could support the resort by voting for them in the awards.
One of our members, Leasa Bullock, has been nominated for “Race Volunteer of the Year” and a number of the LSC racers, Jaz Taylor, Alex Tilley, Charlie Guest, Cara Brown, Daisi Daniels, Millie Knight and Menna Fitzpatrick have also been nominated for various awards.
Please support Flaine and our LSC members by voting. Voting is open until 14 June 2020 and can be accessed here

Jaz Taylor breaks GB record for World Cup Ski medals
LSC are delighted to report that Jaz Taylor, one of the girls we support, is officially the most successful British skier of all time having had more World Cup podiums than any other GB skier.
Jaz, a telemarker based in Chamonix in the winter, now has an incredible 30 World Cup medals. She has beaten the record set by Jilly Curry, the freestyle (aerials) skier, who competed for GB between 1984 and 1994.
If Jaz was competing in almost any other discipline, her achievement would be all over the sports pages of the mainstream media; sadly telemark skiing gets little coverage and is not in the Olympics – though not for want of trying.
Congratulations Jaz on your tremendous performance from all the members of LSC!
A very successful AICC event in Flaine
LSC hosted a very successful AICC race event in Flaine on 12th and 13th March 2020. Despite the Corona Virus threat preventing some teams from attending, we had 115 racers across 30 teams and the competitors enjoyed two excellent days of competition. On Thursday we had the Super G followed by tartiflette lunch before the afternoon team parallel race accompanied by drinks flowing at the ice bar. Thanks to the hard work by ESF and a lot of salt, we managed two fast and furious runs of GS on Friday, despite all waking up to thick fog and soggy snow from overnight rain. Watch the video of the racing here
In keeping with AICC traditions, the social events were a key part of the event; welcome drinks were held in Flaine’s fabulous auditorium on Wednesday and alpine dinners on Thursday at Lapiaz and Le Bissac. On Friday evening we held the prizegiving at L’Eloge, followed by a sumptuous gala dinner at Le Michet. Rumour has it that guests were entertained by members of the committee singing and dancing in pink tutus…. please follow this link

LSC member Caroline Brown at the Winter World Masters Games
One of our regular AICC racers and Committee Member, Caroline Brown, has just returned from competing at the Winter World Masters Games in Innsbruck where she took the opportunity to test out one of the new LSC catsuits.
Caroline said “The Winter World Masters Games was a great opportunity to socialise with and race against alpine skiers from all over the world. The Canadians and Australians both had large teams but there were also competitors from South America and Africa as well as 100s of 'local' Europeans!
There were over 3500 athletes competing in 12 different winter sports - larger than the winter Olympics - spread across four different venues, so Innsbruck didn't feel overrun.
I had a great time and hope to still be racing when the next Winter World Masters Games comes around in 5 years time…”
Hopefully she will be joined by a few more LSC racers in 5 years time!

LSC walk and picnic
Over 25 LSC members and guests joined the annual walk and picnic in East London on Sunday. We met in Wapping and followed various canals passing the old docks, derelict industrial buildings, conversions, new buildings and several parks, including the Olympic park. We had a picnic in Victoria Park, London’s oldest public park, before returning fo Wapping for much deserved tea and cake! Click on the picture below to see a few more photos

LSC on the podium at the AICC in Murren
LSC joined 13 ski clubs for the 12th Amateur Inter-Club Championships hosted by the Kandahar in Murren in March. We fielded six teams across all three age categories and our A team in the 45-59 category (Nikki Reid, Sheridan Killwick, Marguerite Nice and Caroline Brown) took the bronze medal. It was a great few days with some excellent racing (GS, Super G and team parallel slalom) and superb hospitality; a James Bond themed dinner at the Piz Gloria restaurant at the top of the Schilthorn and a gala dinner at the Palace Hotel, the birth place of LSC.
LSC will be hosting next year in Flaine; if any members are keen to help with the organisation please contact Joanna Milner-Percy.
British Championships success for three LSC athletes!
Congratulations to Cara Brown, Abi Bruce and Jess Anderson all who were on the podium today after a successful downhill in Tignes at the British Championships!
