The Ladies’ Ski Club (LSC) is excited to introduce the new and innovative Promise & Determination Scholarship with support from national snowsports charity Skiers Trust through its Ladies’ Ski Club Foundation Fund.  The scholarship runs for three years and is designed to support promising British female snowsport athletes who face financial challenges in continuing their competitive snow sport careers in the critical post U18 development period to reach elite level. The first scholarships will provide up to £2,000 per year for three years (see note below), helping to ease the financial burden of training, equipment, travel, and competition fees.

Candidates for each Scholarship must be put forward by their coach for shortlisting before final selection over the summer period.

The LSC recognises that the cost of high-level snowsport training can be a barrier to progression, particularly for those transitioning into senior competition. Many athletes in their final year of U18 and throughout U21 struggle with funding as parental support lessens, sponsorship opportunities remain limited, and self-funding becomes increasingly difficult. This scholarship is designed to address these challenges, ensuring that promising athletes are not forced to step away from the sport due to financial constraints.

Scholarship Criteria

The Promise & Determination Scholarship is intended to assist athletes who:

·      Demonstrate significant potential and commitment to competitive snowsport.

·      Require financial support to continue training and competing at a high level. This may include athletes who:

o   No longer receive financial support from parents

o   Have parents who are unable to contribute beyond their current level

o   Are self-funding their training with little or no external sponsorship.

o   Are struggling to secure additional financial backing

·      Are in the crucial transition years of their competitive career, with a strong focus on those in their final year of U18 or within the U21 category. However, applications from other age groups will be considered in cases of demonstrated financial hardship and potential.

·      Are committed to long-term participation in and support of the LSC. Applications will only be accepted for LSC members and they must be a member for the full three years of the scholarship. Scholarship recipients are also expected to remain a member and engage with the club for at least three years beyond the scholarship period, contributing to its community and initiatives.

Application & Selection Process

Coaches must apply on behalf of their athletes by filling out the attached Google Form, providing a detailed nomination that includes:

·      Evidence of the athlete’s commitment, training, and competitive potential.

·      A clear statement of financial need and details of any existing funding sources.

·      An outline of how the scholarship would impact the athlete’s ability to continue in the sport.

Applications will be assessed by the LSC Board, with final selection based on a combination of criteria including commitment, promise, financial need and alignment with LSC values. The Board’s decision will be final and appeals will not be considered.

Applications are now open and will remain open until 30 June 2025.

Note: Under the terms and conditions of the award, payment will only be made on submission of valid receipts for expenses incurred to the value of at least £2,000 per year and, in addition, for the second and third years an up-to-date report from the recipient’s coach
